The Composite Resources' pressure vessel uses a filament winding process that allows for one continuous tow of glass fiber to be placed at specific angles throughout each part.

For this project, our engineers were tasked with the design and fabrication of a composite pressure vessel to be used in water filtration systems. This product is unique because of its combination of thermoplastic and thermoset materials that meet the dimensional and applicable requirements for a watertight pressure vessel.   

The pressure vessel is manufactured using a filament winding process that allows for one continuous tow of glass fiber to be placed at specific angles throughout each part. Each end of the pressure vessel is CNC machined to tight tolerances, creating a watertight seal at the end caps.

Inputs:

Customer supplied Composite Resources with design specifications and 2D detailed drawings.

Process:

  • CNC ply cutting
  • Filament winding
  • Out of autoclave oven curing
  • CNC lathe turning
  • Painting
  • Non-Destructive Hydrostatic pressure testing

Result:

Composite Resources produced a lightweight pressure vessel, meeting or exceeding all client specifications. More than a decade after we developed and started manufacturing this unique product, it remains wildly successful within its industry—and we remain proud of it.
